Each month, Belouga’s Global Student Council, a group of students from around the world, write blog posts covering a range of topics related to global education. It is a great way to receive feedback and give voice to the Belouga experience from a student’s point of view. We will be sharing these posts and hope you feel inspired to join in with questions and conversation!
Earth Day: The Earth is Beautiful
by Alexandria, age 13 , from United States
“The environment is where we all meet; where all have a mutual interest; it is the one thing all of us share.” —Lady Bird Johnson
There is one thing that I believe that we can all agree on: the Earth is beautiful. Whether it’s the Northern Lights in Alaska that brighten your spirits or the cherry blossom trees in Japan that make you smile, there is always something to appreciate about the magnificent world in which we live. The Earth is not only something that we should be thankful for, it should be something that we protect. Global learning has helped me in seeing that everything on this Earth is beautiful, including the people. We share this world with these amazing people. This is where we are living and if we do not treat it with respect, then some day we may not be living in it anymore. The change starts with you.
Even if something environmental does not affect you or where you live, it affects others. It affects the wildlife and families. They are worth protecting. This world is worth everything that we can do to preserve its natural beauty. Belouga helped me understand that there are kids who struggle to do the things that people where I come from take for granted. We can make a change. It doesn’t have to be big, something as small as recycling a water bottle could make a huge difference for this planet. This deserves to be appreciated. Like my teacher, Mr. Oldham, says,“The earth is a variety and there are so many cool things to see, so many cool people to meet, so many things to experience.” So, please, if you can, take some time to just stop and take in the beauty of this world, because it will be worth it.
